processes in telecommunications and eTOM
The best known and most-used standard for processes in the telecommunications industry is the eTOM (enhanced Telecom Operations Map), developed by the TMF (TeleManagement Forum). eTOM has been adopted as ITU-T International Recommendation M.3050. The eTOM model describes the full scope of business processes required by a service provider, defines key elements and how they interact, and provides a common terminology for operators. The basis of the model is a hierarchical decomposition of processes on four levels. On the conceptual level zero, eTOM has three major process areas: «strategy, infrastructure and product», «operations» and «enterprise management». On the first level, these areas are divided into four planes: «market, product, client», «services», «resources», and «suppliers and partners». The process decomposition is realized down to level three, the last level on which differences between single companies do not yet play a significant role.
