data processing
The conversion, sorting, allocation or otherwise systematic and standard manipulation of project data by computer programming. It speeds results and reduces the staff that would otherwise be required for manual effort. Great care is required to ensure useful output and avoid the counter productive overloading of managers with unnecessary information. See also Systems Analysis.
data structure organization
The logical and systematic arrangement of information elements.
database
A store for various categories of data which can be drawn on to write reports or act as a simple library.
The component of a software program that stores or organizes project information.
Any of the following:
- A collection of related data stored together with controlled redundancy according to a scheme to serve one or more applications.
- All data files stored in the system.
- A set of data stored together and managed by a database management system.
