Access Kenya, a VoIP and broadband provider for corporate, SOHO and high-end residential customers in Kenya and East Africa, is investing USD3.5 million to build out a WiMAX network in Kenya with Alvarion. With an initial deployment of 35 base stations, the network is being utilised for the operator’s Access@Home guaranteed high speed broadband residential service in Nairobi and Mombasa. Currently the employees of all its existing corporate customers are eligible for a special offer of completely free equipment and a 20% discount on the price of the service, a rate of KES6,000 (USD100.3) a month.

The Companys two wholly owned subsidiaries are Communication Solutions Limited (Access Kenya), which is a corporate Internet service provider (ISP) in Kenya and Broadband Access Limited (Blue), which is a public data network operator (PDNO) offering network services. The Company operates in Kenya and has four inter-related business activities. They are leased line Internet access, telephony services utilizing voice-over-Internet protocol technology (VOIP), last mile wireless local loop connectivity to Internet service providers and end user customers, and international backbone connections from Kenya to the Internet.
