united kingdom — qualcomm gets l-band spectrum

British telecoms regulator Ofcom has confirmed it has awarded spectrum in the 1452MHz-1492MHz band, also known as the L-band, to Qualcomm UK Spectrum. The frequencies, which are suitable for offering services such as mobile television, wireless broadband and satellite radio, raised GBP8.33 million (USD16.3 million). The spectrum has been released on a technology and service neutral basis, allowing the licensee the flexibility to decide which technology to use, which services to offer and to change their use of the spectrum over time. The licence is also fully tradable.
