russia — more details of virgin’s wimax launch

More details have been released of the Virgin Group’s launch of WiMAX wireless broadband services in Russia. Virgin is working with Swiss-based investor Trivon to deliver high speed internet services over networks in Moscow, Belgorod, Orenburg and Ufa. Services are being marketed under the name Virgin Connect, Cellular News reports. Trivon holds WiMAX licences in 32 Russian markets. Virgin Group’s founder and chairman, Sir Richard Branson, commented: ‘I am delighted to announce Virgin’s first business in Russia – Virgin Connect. We have entered Russia with Virgin Connect because we believe the potential for growth in the Russian broadband market is extremely exciting.’ He added: ‘Virgin Connect plans to gain a market share of 10% within five years in this promising market.’.
