russia — sales up 13% at southern telecom
The Russian fixed line operator Southern Telecom has posted 13% revenue growth for its 2007 financial year, while net profit more than tripled to RUB1.22 billion (USD51.8 million). Sales grew to RUB20.23 billion, boosted by a 56% jump in revenues at the internet services division, while EBITDA was up 17% at RUB7.50 billion. Southern Telecom is a subsidiary of state telecoms holding company Svyazinvest.

Telecommunication Investment Joint Stock Company (Svyazinvest) is one of the largest telecom holding companies in the world. Its charter capital was formed by consolidation of shares owned by the federal government in regional telecom operators, set up in the process of telecom sector privatization. Svyazinvest incorporates 7 large mega-regional telecom operators, OJSC Giprosvyaz and OJSC Rostelecom, the national domestic long-distance and international operator. Svyazinvest' network covers nearly the whole of Russia and its capacity makes up over 90% of the total country`s capacity.
