usa — t-mobile planning more 3g launches in october

Reports from the US suggest that cellular operator T-Mobile USA is planning a near nationwide launch of 3G services in the fourth quarter of this year. The cellco’s high speed networks have so far only been switched on in New York, but sources claim that it is now looking at launching in 27 new markets at the start of October. The other cities expected to get 3G coverage by the end of the year are: Atlanta, Austin, Birmingham, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Memphis, Miami, Minneapolis, New England, NJ and Long Island, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa and Washington DC, Cellular News writes.

T-Mobile USA, a subsidiary of Germany-based Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile International business, provides wireless voice and data communications services to subscribers in the US. Its approximately 27 million customers use its GSM (global system for mobile communications) network in the US and are also able to connect the GSM network of its parent company when in Europe. The company also provides wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) service through its T-Mobile HotSpot brand. T-Mobile USA resells phones, PDA's, and accessories from Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung among other manfacturers.
