malaysia — digi looking to boost post-paid subscriber base

Malaysian mobile operator DiGi Telecommunications (DiGi) has announced the launch of four new post-paid plans, with prices ranging from MYR20 (USD6.15) to MYR250 (UDS77). During the announcement at a press conference, DiGi chief commercial officer Tom Schnitker stated that the company expects post-paid subscriber growth this year to pass the 41% recorded in the first quarter of 2008. Also revealed was news that DiGi is likely to introduce 3G services by the first quarter of 2009. DiGi was the third largest mobile operator in Malaysia at March 2008, with a total subscriber base of 6.5 million.

DiGi Telecommunications is a mobile phone service provider in Malaysia. The company is owned in majority by Telenor ASA of Norway with 61%. On 24 May 1995 DiGi became the first telco in Malaysia to launch and operate a fully digital cellular network. DiGi Telecommunications Sdn. Bhd. provides a variety of mobile communication services. These services include voice under their prepaid plans & postpaid plans, SMS, data plans and services, international roaming, international calling card and WAP services.
