usa — time warner cable, windjammer deal

Time Warner Cable says it is selling a group of small cable systems covering approximately 80,000 basic video subscribers and 120,000 revenue generating units in areas away from its main geographic clusters, to Windjammer Communications. The exercise is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2008 with Time Warner Cable planning to post a second-quarter, pre-tax, non-cash loss on the sale of about USD45 million, which it will record it as a component of operating income.

Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC) operates as a cable operator in the United States. The Company operates in five geographic areas: New York state (including New York City), the Carolinas, Ohio, southern California (including Los Angeles) and Texas. As of December 31, 2007, TWC served approximately 14.6 million customers who subscribed to one or more of its video, high-speed data and voice services, representing approximately 32.1 million revenue generating units (RGUs), which reflects the total of all TWC basic video, digital video, high-speed data and voice service subscribers. In December 2007, TWC announced the completion of its sale of cable systems representing approximately 14,300 basic video subscribers in Mecklenburg County and the towns of Mooresville, Davidson and Cornelius in North Carolina, to an inter-local agency, MI-Connection Communications System.
