nigeria — zain nigeria outlines ambitious spending plans
Local newspaper Business Day has revealed that Zain Nigeria plans to spend USD1 billion each year as it seeks to become the largest operator in the country by 2011. According to CEO Bayo Ligali the figure excludes the USD200 million already spent on building a 4,000km fibre-optic backbone across Nigeria. At the end of March 2008 Zain claimed 12.6 million wireless subscribers, placing it behind Globacom (with an estimated 13.1 million) and market leader MTN Nigeria (17.8 million).
